Recycled Headlines 2008 October 08 Captain Kickless (aka Rabbs), Monka and Fidds did the coast proud in the Supers squad (over 35’s) but were unable to get them over the line for a win against quality opposition. The highlight was reportedly seeing Captain Kickless shake off the “kickless” tag (ever so briefly) in his last game, drawing cheering and wild celebration from the spectators. The Masters (over 40’s) came away from the carnival with two wins; as usual Monka was doubling-up (as he so often does for the Sunny coast) and contributed to their success. The Seniors (Over 45’s) were able to put together a solid performance but were only able to manufacture one win for the tournament. Micky Dawe did well waving the flag for the Sunny coast in this division. The Super Seniors (over 50’s) were able to match it with the best in the country, equaling two other sides with three wins a-piece, only to come third in the tournament that had to be decided on points “for” and “against”. Pip, Woody, Col, Marty & Billy Morgan represented the sunny coast proudly with a number of them unlucky to miss out on All-Australian selection. From all accounts a great time was had by all, with a number of them already committing to the 2009 carnival to be held in Cairns in late September. September 08The Masters raffle was drawn last friday at the sports bar and the winner is Wayne Aherne. Luckily he can spend some time with the camping and fishing equipment now that the Pies couldn't make it to the grand final. You can't win them all! Go Buddy! Congratulations go out to Dickers and his lovely wife on their recent addition to the family. A future ruck-rover / centre half-forward will keep the pair of them on their toes. We look forward to seeing them at the big game on the 13th September. Congratulations to Uppo on the announcement that the main oval at the Fisherman's Road Complex is to be named the Neil "Uppo" Upton Oval. You can checkout Uppo in the Photo Gallery which has been updated with a select few photos from the last bus trip for 2008. Check it out here! The Shrek was certainly making his final footy bus trip for season 08 a memorable one. After hitting the showers early and hitting the refreshments hard enough to work up a sweat in the bus and at the Brekky Creek, he was observed orating rather loudly into the bin. Looking forward to that story Richie! August 08 Poynts' Pies struck a chord with the squad at the end of the regular Wednesday training session this week. Unfortunately Marty was banking on a few more bodies at training and, you guessed it, over-catered. The pie-eating competition also had to be postponed as Richie C was attending a motivational talk by Michael Voss. These Pie supporters will try anything won't they? After a big day on the clipboard and 13 cans spanning two games, the usually reserved Eddie Whiteside (who are we really kidding here?) was primed for a big one. The Deputy Mayor of Dalby was in fine form and thanks to a little help from Monka, Rocket and Barra, made it a memorable post-match evening, covering clubs up and down the sunny coast strip (after being ejected from most of them). Let’s just hope that most of the club security guys didn’t take Eddie’s threats too seriously. Rumor also has it that Nipper & Wilkes will shortly be heading to the Top end to check out the conditions available for the upcoming National Carnival. It just so happens to coincide with the Darwin Cup, so we are eagerly awaiting their analysis and investigation of the facilities up there. July 08 It is quickly approaching the pointy end of the season and input and support is being urgently sought from all players and supporters regarding the Presentation Night, Christmas Party and any other club functions that could take place this season. If you have any ideas or wish to offer your support in the organisation of any of these events, please contact Marty ASAP.
