Footy Tipping Heats Up
3 August, 2009We are fastly approaching the pointy end of the season and this is no different with the tipping. Richie Coward and Rainlover are neck and neck on 105 a piece, leading a group of six that just won't lay down. Richie beware the Collywobbles and Vaggy don't celebrate too early.

Round 10 Matches
9 August, 2009

The day started on a worrying note with a number of players pulling out of the game at the last minute. Some frantic phone calls saw the christening of Milesy's new "to your door" pick-up service - we almost needed to fuel up on the way down to Brissy! However this ensured that we had one or two on the bench and were able to put up a fight.
Although the scores appear to indicate otherwise, it was a close game in terms of the individual battles around the ground. The first quarter saw Suncoast kick true to post a seven goal lead. Maggi (Brett or 2minute noodles to some) lasted his stated time before retiring to the bench with a groin strain. The back line worked hard all day restricting them to four goals in the first half - they would only get one more goal for the rest of the day!
Delivery into the forward fifty was superb all day with a number of players lining up to kick goals. Deano let rip not one, but two booming kicks to claim goals and nick-naming his right foot "Houston". He then told Botters "Houston we don't have a problem!" With no Captain Crunch, it was left up to Dickers to provide the big hits and he didn't let us or FB down, ensuring a number of the grange boys kept a good lookout.
Credit needs to go to Wilston Grange for keeping up the pressure for the whole game as many of the suncoast boys were tired and sore by days end. A big thanks to Milesy, Uppo, Matso and our new waterboy Barra!
Quote of the day (Deano's Houston was hard to beat) goes to a Grange player who casually commented to Botters..."you know, every time we play you guys we get beaten...but you are great to watch".
Goals: Botters 6; Tyres, Chrisso, M.Vagg 4; L.Roberts 3; Chowie, Deano 2; and singles to Maggi and Buckles.

Tyres Reaches Out to Underprivileged
20 August, 2009
A local business has decided to get on the band wagon and support the needy and the underprivileged in our community – Collingwood supporters! Tyres, of Sugar Road Tyres and Mechanical, is offering all Collingwood supporters the opportunity to have their wheel nuts checked FREE OF CHARGE leading into the business end of the season. For too many years Magpies supporters have taunted their opposition only to have the wheels fall off the Collingwood machine heading into September.
“It is a known fact that the Colli-Wobbles is a significant problem”, says Tyres, “and I feel that it is the least that I can do to help out those with such a deteriorating affliction (being a Collingwood supporter)”.
Tyres' special is only available until the end of August as in most cases Collingwood has already started to lose wheels by the first week in September! So get in quick!

Round 11 Matches
23 August, 2009

It was a tough day at the office for the Suncoast Masters. With a nonexistent bench and a very warm winters day (temperatures were well and truly over 30deg.C) it was always going to be a tough ask.
Chrisso was a pocket dynamo, busting through tackles and making breaks through the centre of the ground. With him was Tails, feeding off Vaggy's ruck work all day and supplying quality ball to the likes of Marty and Dasher. Vaggy also launched a number of bombs from the 50 to walk away with 3 goals.
One incident saw Marty and Tail both attack a Shark's player (from different angles) and end up smacking right into one another...I guess Tails had 'eyes' for his opponent and Marty had 'eye' on him as well...obviously the good one didn't see Tails and bang. They hit so hard Marty thought he could see out of the glass one...Ha!
The opposition was solid and kept many a suncoast player honest throughout the match. Credit goes to the Suncoast Masters who kept their cool during the high temperatures and the late shots to come away with a 21 point win..
Goals: T.Vagg 3; Dasher, Marty, Pip, Chrisso 1.
This is probably the toughest game that the Supers will face for season '09 (especially now that Morningside have other plans for the last game of the year - I think they involve fairy bread). Each time Souths launched an attack, it was repelled. The Suncoast defence was superb, allowing only one behind through in the first quarter. The engine room was also firing spearing passes into the forward line.
Chowie was assisted from the field early in the second quarter with a suspected sprained ankle that later was diagnosed as two fractures. Botters subbed off in the third after some really tough shots on him and a sickening tackle that left him nauseous and unsteady. He was later admitted to Nambour Hospital and checked out with concussion later that evening.
Quote of the day goes to one of the South's players who exclaimed to Footy (who was umpiring at the time) "Jeez, we're not playing for Play Stations". Obviously sheep stations are not worth alot of money these days.
Just like the game, the final bus trip of the season was very demanding on the players. Though many would be pleased to know that the boys were well behaved for the 3.5 hour trip. Check out the Dugong kiss and many more photos in the Gallery.

Club Spirit
27 August, 2009
When you look at successful sporting clubs you ask yourself...what made them so successful? In the case of the Sunshine Coast Big V Masters/Supers you only have to come down to training on a Wednesday night or turn up to watch a game to find out. It’s simply a bunch of blokes who still try and play the game they love but a culture is deeply imbedded within every player who becomes part of our unit.
It starts by having a core of people who work tirelessly providing services needed within any footy club, at our club that core consists of Marty, Milesy, Uppo and Matso, not only do these people live and breath football but they have been giving their service to the club for many many years, this provides great stability and their desire for footy is infectious, they create a friendly environment in which all who turn up feel very much welcome, the players in turn spread this enthusiasm to the next new comers and so on.
What this does is create a tight knit bunch of blokes who stick together when the going get’s tough, as was evident in both games against Souths last weekend! Souths to their credit had a red hot go on an equally red hot day, personally I found it to be the most rewarding and enjoyable game we’ve played! Thanks to great commitment and determination both teams prevailed but not without cost and this is where our club spirit shines through again; Coach Botters and playing stalwart Chowie both sustained nasty injuries, all players and the club as a whole have rallied in support of these blokes, not just left them out to dry, but have helped them out in some way to ease the stress.
It is a proud thing being part of this group and it is something other clubs may want to look at as inspiration for their future. It is a bit annoying that some clubs (or certain people within some clubs) expect favours and assistance of others but do not reciprocate them (as appears to be the case with our last game for the year). Let’s hope Marty can work his magic and make sure we all have a fitting end to yet another successful year, one where we not only get to play footy but also to have a special day with wives, girlfriends and families!
I have loved playing footy with every one of the motley crew this year, I hope every one returns again next season and that we may welcome more players to our very spirited unit...not Big J’s spirits though!? Though the Choccie Milkshake cocktail was his best yet!!
Cheers “are we good, are we good, are we any bloody good?.....you bloody bet we are!”
Richard C (close admirer of Dugongs...according to Marty)
