2009 Master Chef
Alistair Walker (Chowie)
Thai Green CurryGrain-fed chicken, asian greens in a silky smooth coconut milk sauce, infused with coriander, kafer lime leaves, chilli and more essential Thai flavours served with a long grain jasmine rice. Exquisite! However a blind Colobus monkey could have achieved better taste results than this chef - maybe he would be better off in the trees!
Rod Gooding (Rockets)
Penne CarbonaraSurprisingly, this dish was not presented by ten Italian Mama's. Fresh penne pasta cooked al dente with sauteed pig flesh and shallots, then finished with cream and yolk of egg. This fish monger has revamped an Italian classic. Bellisimo!
Greg Miles
Homestead StewRich and ballsy ride on the trail of beefy satisfaction. Using prime quality yet remarkably cheap British beef (only grazed a couple of paddocks from the asylum). With robust potatoes and root vegetables, the chef clearly has an eye for combinations. Greg-a-licious!
Justin Rabbett
Tuna Mornay (aka Tuna Surprise)A saucy sea of cheesy mornay and delicate vegetables lending support to tender chunks of high-grade deep sea, blue-fin tuna, all perched atop a fluffy bed of aborio rice. The sea was angry that night, as the tuna were not running. Like a pub with no beer, let's hope the tuna return!
Jamie Price
Butter ChickenStir fried vegetables, plump corn-fed chicken seared and simmered together in a buttery yet authentic Indian sauce overflowing with age-old Indian herbs and spices. Masterfoods got this one just right!
Alistair Walker (Chowie)
Pumpkin Soup with toasted paninoA smooth classic Australian recipe that used jap pumpkins and a variety of organic hinterland ingredients. What can you say? Do the simple things and you've get 'em by the buds!
Rod Gooding (Rockets)
Mongolian BeefA sweet and spicy sauce with asian vegetables and ancient oriental flavours infusing the tender strips of beef. This dish would have even made Attila the Hun's fart smell good.
Rod Wilke
Marinated Chicken WingsTackling his way into contention with a sweet honey soy and ginger teriyaki styled taste of the orient. Confucius say "Many wings need much flavour!". Don't feel sorry for the chickens used in this dish, as they couldn't walk away from it either - I feel like chicken tonight!
Jason Graham
Fermented Fruit Jellies (Jelly Bombs)This was dessert with a punch! You won't be flying an aero plane after a few of these suckers. Come to think of it, walking was even a bit of a challenge for some!
