Mixed Bag of Results from Round 3 Clashes
02 May, 2010What a huge day it was. Erwen from Haymans Electrical (Major Sponsor) was on hand to see the new strip launched from the equally new Corporate Box with President Greg keeping a close eye on operations. Everyone agrees that the jumpers are absolutely fantastic; the shorts on the other hand...well the colour and logos are great but you can fit two players into each pair! We’ve certainly come a long "baggy" way from the Capper spray-on days.
The Masters game loomed to be an unfortunate shellacking but to the Masters credit, they dug deep in the third term and began to apply scoreboard pressure to get dangerously close. A very serious injury to club stalwart Rod Wilke (2 cracked ribs - we wish Wilkes a speedy recovery) saw the masters trying to apply the final coat without his presence and height on the field. On a positive note, it was great to see T-Vagg back on the field and solid performances given by Macca, Condo and some scintillating runs by Merlo!
The team seemed unable to gel as well as usual and struggled to control the ball with any level of consistency. This reduced their scoring opportunities allowing Morningside to run out winners. Our Masters side oozes talent, let’s hope we can find that team binding formula again and realise our potential!
Goals: Singles to Rocket Rod, Wayno, Deano, Dicko & Thatch.

Wow what a game, a hard fought win befitting the christening of our new strip! Thanks to the team’s brains trust, a bit of forward preparation stood us in good stead! It had been noted that Morningside had beaten Souths (one of our tough opponents from 2009) in a strong display of physical football. We knew they’d be out to knock us off, so we were mentally prepared for the encounter. Morningside did come out hard and fast, but to our credit, we were equally hard and fast which made for a great spectacle.
With such a hot contest comes a few hot moments, unfortunately this led to Yatesy having a fisty-cuffs with an equally ambitious opponent resulting in a sit on the side-line for a quarter for both players. While we pride ourselves on being a physically tough side, we do not let ourselves lose control and resort to throwing punches. Looks like Yatesy will be umpiring the next one!
Both sides came out after half time wanting to take the ascendancy but the Rayners were harder at the ball, repelling forward forays while kicking accurately in return. Our engine room worked tirelessly all day and much credit goes to Richie Rayburn (Mini-me), Barra, Vaggy (Mark), Gatto and Hackey (Sac). The team was strong all over the park but the boys in the middle stood up to the speed and rigor of the game...in short a fantastic effort by a bunch of dedicated old-boy footballers who love the game and love to win! Yet another great moment for our club! Let’s continue the season in the same fashion!
Goals: 3 Botters; 2 Barra, Richie Raeburn, Shannon; Singles to Big Jas, Gatto & Rod Sheriff.
Again an impressive performance by those that DO around the club, equally as impressive as the supers on field performance. Milesey, Nipper, Min, Tim, Points, Big J, Dena, Rocket Rod, Michelle Jones, Botters and Footy - take a bow folks. A well organised fun-day was had by all thanks to your tremendous contributions. Good food, good company, capped off by great music Big J, Paul Mac and Steve belted out songs that our era love to dance and sing along to...some of us more singing (if you could call it that) and dancing (Willow and Rockets) than others. We are very lucky to have such talent at our club and it just makes it an even nicer place to be. I’m feelin’ the love right now, Good on you Sunshine Coast Rayners...no wonder we are such a successful unit!
Reporters Note: Richie C’s day was made extra special by the 53pt thumping of Carlton by the Pies… and giving it to all the Carlton boys who started singing their club song when they got within 3pts in the 3rd quarter… Ahhh he died and went to heaven...What a Day!

Training Track Talk
05 May, 2010Steady numbers made it along to training last night after some hard games on the weekend. Rabbs charmed allcomers with his latest dish Chicken Noodle Surprise (see master chef report by clicking on master chef icon). Trust Rabbs to manufacture another corker. The lucky number raffle was won by Chowie!
Training Track Talk
12 May, 2010Very good numbers made it along to training last night in the absence of Botters - too many for the caterer anyway (the Dugong missed out on the dimmies). Big games on the weekend at home - ensure you get there for the early starts. Congratulations to Pipes who won the lucky number raffle!

Rayners Post Confident WinsThe Rayners came out of the blocks firing and posted 5 goals to nil in the first term to set up a commanding lead against a depleted Pomona side. A full bench on the Rayners team proved lucky for Pomona as a number of our boys swapped sides throughout the game to ensure a fair contest. The Rayners took a 47point lead into the main break after a flurry of activity in the first half.
Nigger and Justin had fantastic games and were instrumental in repelling Pomona’s advances into their forward line whilst setting up many of the Rayners attacks on the goal. Solid contributions were also made by Wayno, T-Vagg, Pipes and Monka. Aparently Monka is going to make himself available for tackling practice on Wednesday night, as both Deano and Nigger thought he was good for it on Sunday!
Inaccurate kicking in the third quarter (8 behinds) kept Pomona in the game as did some spectacular aerial work by some of their smaller players, using the likes of Pipes as a step-ladder (a lovely photo in the Gallery). The Rayners put all chances of a revival from Pomona to bed with 3 goals in the final term to post just their second win of the season, running away convincing 76point winners.
Injuries: Col will have to take cosmetic leave (I kid you not) after receiving a beautiful shiner in a head clash and pipes will need some stops removed from his lower back.
Goals: 5 T-Vagg; 2 Paulie, Pip; Singles to Russ, Monka, Wayno, Rockets and Dr Dasher.
It took a long time for the opposition to arrive and come out and face us, that and the thought of playing a depleted side meant the Rayners were a bit flat and started the game in lazy fashion. Going with the wind in the first term, the Rayners started confidently in perfect conditions for playing football, setting up a 17point lead. Steady scoring by both teams in the second quarter meant the teams were evenly pegged with neither team able to establish supremacy on the score board. Two goals from Botts and superb running goals from Barra and Crackers ensured that the Rayners were able to take a 21point lead into half time.
Barra, PJ and Brandy were major contributors on the day and were seen giving first, second and third efforts all over the ground. Moments of brilliance were also displayed from the likes of Gaddo, Rabbs and M-Vagg. A rousing speech from Botters comparing the Rayners present half time predicament to Jessica Watson’s recent circumnavigation of the globe really stirred the guys as they headed into the final half.
It took the Rayners ‘til the final term to cruise away from the Bombers, posting 7 goals to claim victory by 66points. Credit has to go to the Bombers who stayed in touch and were still real contenders across three of the four quarters. A slap on the back for Richie C, who was given the big task of kicking out for the day and absolutely nailed it in the last quarter – well done Dugong; and Mad-dog who returned to the team (after filling in for the Bombers for 3-quarters) on the day that Tyres convinced everybody it was Mad-dog’s birthday. Is that why you wore Ugg-boots to game-day Tyres?
Injuries: Slight concussion after Bouncer (JP) attempted his first bounce on the run in front of the bar; Big Jas (Dribbles) with a strained calf after dribbling the ball through the sticks for a goal. M-Vagg was left wearing a nice jumper burn on his shoulder. Remember Vaggy, it is "Respect the Umpies Week"! Speaking of Bones, apparently he was relieved one Steve Dickey was not playing this match; I wonder why?
Goals: 3 Botters, Barra, Crackers; 2 Troy, M-Vagg; Singles to Big Jas, JP and Yatesy.
MasterChef - Chow's Challenge
19 May, 2010The Pres has laid down the first MasterChef Challenge for 2010 and Chowie has accepted. Leftovers from the weekend BBQ included steak & onions. From this Chowie has to construct a meal fit for a training night. What will he come up with? Pop along to training tonight to find out. I wonder if he can make dimmies from that?

Rayners Pound South-Coasters into SubmissionSome impressive team football was on display from the Rayners Masters squad after previous lack-lustre performances on the paddock. For whatever reason the team just seemed to gel. Maybe it was the long bus trip, we just don't know? A 4-goal first term set them off on the right foot with Nigger launching 40m bombs from the pocket on three occasions to slot 3 majors. A big hit by Mick-O on his team mate Condo left him seeing stars and claret towards the end of the first term.
Nigger had such a great first half, locals at the ground were on the verge of naming a forward pocket after him. Solid contributions were also made by Wayno, Tails and Monka. Impressive contributions were also made by first-gamers Munchy (M.Munchinberg) and The Doc (S.Parsons). Let's hope we see more of them in the coming weeks!! The game was in the balance in the second and third terms and was up for grabs by either side. The Rayners eventually shut out the Coolangatta side with a 5-goal last term to seal an impressive 44point victory.
Injuries: Condo may have fractured cheek-bone after his head clash.
Goals: 3 Nigger, Pip; 2 Mick-O; Singles to Merlot, Footy, Wayno, Tails and Dr Dasher.
The game revolved around the supply of ball from the mid-field. From the Rayners perspective, it was at its all-time best with Barra seemingly on the end of most of the ball coming out of the centre, supported well by the likes of Dickers, Richie R, PJ and Vaggy. When the ball did appear to breach the Rayners centre line, the backline dealt with it superbly, repelling attacks before the ball came within scoring range. Rabbs secured a spot at centre half-back as his direction of traffic in this area was masterful enbling the Rayners to set-up a massive 89point buffer into half time.
Deano-H will have to play again after bagging five majors in his first game of football for many seasons, while Richie C finally slotted a goal after receiving financial encouragement from Wilkes and others on the sideline after some minor scores and a handball goal (how did that bet pan out Wilke?). Solid contributions were made by Barra in the centre, Rabbs in the backline and PJ all over the place again, to secure a demoralising 188point victory over Mudgeeraba. Credit to Mudgeeraba for still fighting all match and posting the final goal of the game.
The bus trip home was a huge undertaking for all involved. Totaling 4 hours with many stops for refreshments and bladder refreshers, Evil deserves a medal for his effort on the big-bus and Botters on the small-bus; thanks from all of the passengers. Nipper, son, you did a fantastic job keeping the riff-raff in order on the bus and I believe an award is coming your way for your tireless work in the safety department!
Injuries: None reported, although a number of bus passengers reported minor bruising and facial lacerations after exhaustive trip home.
Goals: 5 Deano-H; 4 Richie Raeburn; 3 Shannon, Barra, Brandy; 2 Dickers,PJ, Wayne R; Singles to Richie C, Reidy, Botters, Big Jas, T-Vagg and M-Vagg.
