June News Headlines
Website Goes Down
01 June, 2010Some minor technical issues have surrounded the website over the past few days. This may have been caused by a number of things like PJ visiting the site too often, causing it to crash; or Minn racing in to read Richie's Joke of the week; or Milesy looking at his image in the jumper. Basically the site exceeded its allocated number of visits in a month (2gigabytes). This will be fixed by the end of the week...so keep visiting!!!!

Training Track Talk
02 June, 2010It doesn't rain on the sunny coast - it pours!!! Condo is out for 2 months with hairline cheekbone fractures, 5 of them. Botters is in quarantine with suspected whooping cough brought on after sufferring from exposure and mankini rash. Chrisso was unable to backup after the bus trip and Tyres has been AWOL from training for ages. Good news is that Milesy was able to drop in for a chat after training and PJ is running Master Chef next week!!

Training Track Talk
09 June, 2010A small group of dedicated club men turned up for training this week. PJ pulled out a fantastic curry for the boys and Wimple added his special "smokey" touch to the dish. Good news, Tyres has been seen but has been diagnosed with DOMS Syndrome (Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness) and Botters is out of quarantine so the worst would appear to be over! Big Jas won the raffle that was sold by Dickers and dynamically drawn by Wimple.
Camp Coward – The Queen’s Birthday
14 June, 2010The inaugural camping weekend went ahead despite the bitterly cold conditions on saturday night. Tent erection was all the go on saturday afternoon as many of the early birds watched the show. Check out some of the photos in the web gallery.
An auspicious occasion that just happened to coincide with Richie C’s birthday saw the birth of the first Suncoast V Rayners camping weekend. The event was held over two nights at Kennilworth Homestead, testing the mettle of all. A rabble of campers participated from within the club and from without, including an appearance from Lowndsey, who you may also remember made a brief appearance on the 2009 Footy trip.
Saturday
This was a cold one! Crazy Rich (known from here on in as Sarah Lee because he had layer upon layer upon layer of jumpers on) was rugged up, topped up and on a number of occasions steered away from the fire in-case he caught alight. Macka, Big Jas and Neil played tunes until late into the night as campers huddled around the campfire. Not to be outdone, Botters serenaded the fireside with a rendition of his latest melody before demonstrating his fire kissing skills.
Upon running low of wood later in the evening, someone grabbed Richie C’s Collingwood mug and threw it on the fire. It shone briefly but just wouldn’t fire up – much akin to the real team someone was heard saying.
Sunday
A much warmer affair after the close to zero degrees temperatures from the night before. Many though packed up and returned to the comfort of their own beds after such low temperatures. Richie C found his singed mug in the remnants of the campfire (the howl could be heard for miles) and immediately pointed the finger at Dickers. He casually replied that now everyone knew that there is no “wood” in Collingwood.
Dickers and Jas went on a mission later in the day to get some more firewood supplies for the evening. After being gone for more than an hour (and taking many a wrong turn) they returned with plenty of wood and scallops for dinner.
It was nowhere near as cold this evening but the bigger fire ensured everyone joined in for another nights worth of entertainment. The revellers who remained sung up a storm well into the early hours of the morning.
Monday

Pack-up day for those that made it through both days of the event. After a short phone call, Dickers arranged for someone else to pick up his camping machine. A fantastic weekend around the campfire for everyone concerned. One would almost say it was an event fit for a Queen – See you at the next one Richie!!!Training Track Talk
23 June, 2010A good night on the training track as we prepare for our first game in 4-weeks. The Bro's (Dickers and PJ) are doing it tough in the land of the long white cloud but had time to place this bit of advertising at the very top of Mt Hut, in conditions not unlike the frosty reception at home after a long bus trip (minus 5deg.C).
Nipper cooked up a storm with his Ki Si Ming + Special Fried Rice and guess who won the raffle...AGAIN? Mad-dog wins his fifth!!
Legends Evening
26 June, 2010The Legends night held on June 26 was a fantastic opportunity for past sunshine coast players to catch up with old friends and foes involved in AFL since its inception on the coast. There were a number of players and club representatives from the Sunshine Coast Rayners inducted into the Hall of Fame. They included Dickers, Penny, Bones ,Mick Matson, Poynts, Marty Rayner, Uppo, Eddie Whiteside and Mark Vagg. Neil Upton was also awarded Legend Status on the sunshine coast. Congratulations to all on a wonderfull evening.

Round 6 Clashes
27 June, 2010The first quarter was a fantastic struggle both on and off the field as the Rayners struggled to a one point lead working rather efficiently into a 2-goal breeze at quarter time. They found their rhythm in the second term and posted 5 goals whilst the defence kept Aspley to a solitary behind.
After 4-weeks off Rockets produced a sensational first half, pulling down one-handed marks and dribbling a goal through the sticks Fevola-style. Merlot again tantalised the crowd with his ball carrying and to his credit has been working hard on the bounce. Bustling runs were produced aplenty by Chrisso and Nigga often breaking open the forward line to supply the forwards with goals.
Solid contributions were also made by the likes of Tails, Justin and Macca. All in all a hard fought team win, saw the Rayners Masters come away with a 55-point victory…congratulations boys!!
Goals: 4 Dasher (The Doctor); 2 Nigga, Rocket, Chrisso, Wilkes; Pip, Macka, Tails with singles.
Super coach Botters probably made one of the toughest calls this year when he ruled himself out of the starting 22. Never the less, the Rayners Supers side found sufficient depth of talent to cover such a loss and post a 13 goal to 1 first half to totally demoralise Wynnum.
Working from the sidelines, Botters made many positional changes, giving a number of players the opportunity to play in unfamiliar territory. He also threw out the Jessica Watson chocolate bar pep-talk and introduced the Roger “Dickers” Ramjet analogy. Unfortunately the proton pills didn’t catch on as well as Botters expected and he will most likely be looking for another focus next game.
A mention also needs to be made of Paulie, Chrisso and Merlot who all backed up from the Masters game to help Wynnum out for numbers in the Supers match. They all played superb games for the opposition and did shut down a number of attacking raids made by the Rayners. Rayners Supers too good for Wynnum running out 137-point victors.
Goals: 3 Rabbs, Cam; 2 Chowie, Evil, Dickers, Shannon; Yatesy, Richie C, Troy, Haacky, Reidy, Lucky Phil, Chris M, Brandy & PJ kicked singles. -
Training Track Talk
30 June, 2010A good roll up for training this week after a couple of strong wins on the weekend! Another testing time for coach Botters with the boys minds not fully on the job on the track, a few exercises proving a little complicated...perhaps the effect of too much alcohol consumption over the weekend! PLUS the odd attempt at humour from blokes who should not bother...aaah the job of a coach who’d have it??
A noticeable addition to training is the ‘facial merkins’ worn by PJ and Leroy...is it a disease or are these precious boys trying to combat the cold, would bet their bikini lines are in great shape though!!!!!!!!! Good to see Evil turning up...he has torn inter costal (rib) cartilage and will be out of action for a while, we wish Evil a speedy recovery and so do the 6 Dwarfs who miss him at work!
It was announced that Mick Matso Matsons 60th Birthday party is going to be held after the next home game, so lets get all and sundry there, first to knock off tough opponents Souths and then to party hard with this tough old war horse! Great to see Matso fire up after training.....He’s truly back!
Our illustrious President Milesy made an admirable attempt at Master Chef Honours with his snag’n’beef stew! The winner of the lucky number draw this week went to Aaron ’mad as a cut snake’ Yates....good onya Yatesy and great effort umpiring on the weekend! -
